System requirements

The Media24 Player runs on ordinary Android hardware. There is no special box to buy — most Android TV boxes, tablets, and displays sold in Uzbekistan will run it.

  • Android 5.0 (API 21) or newer. Both Android TV boxes and plain Android boxes or tablets work — the player registers as a launcher on both kinds of device.
  • A TV remote (D-pad) is fully supported — the whole player, including the activation-code screen, is navigable with the remote. No mouse or touchscreen is needed.
  • Video decoding is hardware-only. The player uses the device’s built-in video decoder and has no software fallback.

    • An H.264 / AVC hardware decoder is effectively universal, so H.264 video plays on virtually every device.
    • HEVC / H.265 plays only on boxes that have a hardware HEVC decoder — which is not guaranteed on cheaper hardware.
    • Recommendation: publish MP4 video encoded as H.264 + AAC. See What plays and how.
  • Multi-zone layouts decode at most 2 videos at the same time. A layout with more than 2 video zones is beyond what cheap hardware can decode simultaneously.

  • Storage: budget for the content cache, which can grow up to 8 GiB of downloaded media.

  • Outbound HTTPS only. The player reaches the Media24 servers over HTTPS; it needs no inbound ports and no static IP.
  • Wi-Fi or Ethernet — either works.
  • Once the device has completed its first content sync, it keeps playing even if the network drops — see the offline behavior in What plays and how.
