Install on an Android device

The Media24 Player is distributed as a single Android APK that you install (sideload) on your box. There is no Play Store listing — you download the APK from your own Manager and install it directly.

In the Manager top bar, click the Downloads icon (the download arrow), then Download player APK. This is always the current build for your fleet.

That button opens the public APK link (/apk). If the box has no browser or you prefer to prepare it from another computer, open the same link there and copy the downloaded file onto the box (USB, network share, or a file manager), or open the link in the box’s own browser. In production the link is served at https://api.media24.uz/apk.

Because the APK does not come from the Play Store, Android will ask for permission the first time you open it. On Android 8 and newer, the OS shows an “Install unknown apps” prompt for whichever app is opening the APK (your browser or file manager) — follow that prompt to allow it, then continue. Older Android versions instead have a single Unknown sources switch in Settings.

Run the downloaded APK, accept Android’s install dialog, and open Media24 Player. On first launch the app lands on the connect screen, where you enter an activation code — continue with Connect a screen.

Set Media24 as the Home app — accept this prompt

Section titled “Set Media24 as the Home app — accept this prompt”

After the device is enrolled and playing, the player shows a one-time prompt: “Set Media24 as your Home screen” with Set as Home and Later.

Accept it. Being the device’s default Home app is what makes the player open automatically on power-up and relaunch itself if it ever closes — no one needs to touch the screen. On Android 10 and newer this is a single system dialog; on older versions it opens the Home-app settings screen.

To stop anyone from removing the player, grant it Device Administrator in Android Settings. There is no button for this inside the player — it is done in Android Settings only:

  1. Open Settings → Security (& privacy) → Device admin apps (the exact path varies by device).
  2. Find Media24 Player in the list and turn it on.
  3. Confirm the activation dialog. It declares a single power — Lock the screen — and nothing else (no data wipe).

Once granted, the player cannot be uninstalled until an operator deactivates the admin.
